Welcome to the Inaugural Issue of 360 – Health and Wellness Magazine.  Grab a cup of tea, find a quiet, comfy recliner and enjoy the cornucopia. We have informative, educational articles, personal and inspiring interviews, profiles in health activism, social awareness articles, a current health news column as well as awareness-raising features, reports and events.

How long has it been since you had reason to reflect on the benefits, rights and challenges of living in a free and democratic society? Freedom which assures us Individual Sovereignty? Individual sovereignty means personal responsibility in the exercise of personal rights, and a corresponding responsibility for the consequences of those decisions and actions.

In the area of health as defined by the World Health Organization [WHO], there is without doubt major disparities, disconnects and inequalities which impacts individual sovereignty. Healthcare is a human right over which we ought to be enabled to exercise individual sovereignty. Unfortunately, in many cases this depends to a greater or lesser degree on your zip code, your economic and social status, your voice and representation and dare I say, your “perceived value” in society.

I believe we should all be health advocates and health activists when necessary. Healthy bodies and healthy minds are the tools by which to forge our best future. To this end, our information-packed 360 – Health and Wellness magazine will be covering a range of health/related topics. These will help readers to exercise their autonomy in pursuing proactive, preventive strategies in their personal/family health and wellness plans.

In this issue we discuss the need encouraging a Healthy Breastfeeding Culture and we look at the hot button issue of Vaccination from the point of view of a Family Practice Physician.

Our Small Farm Consultant presents Gardening for Food as a Part of the Solution to sustainable health for people and planet alike.  At the same time, sustainable agriculture positively supports Sustainable Fashion while Thrifting affords us one of the many ways to ‘have skin in the game.’

We invite you to eavesdrop on my conversations with our impressive Champion of Nature and Kids as she shares what drives her passion, as well as our Vegan Chef of the Month as he talks about his experiences and expertise.  And there is so much more to keep you engaged.

Finally, there are millions of people whose individual sovereignty has been criminally, immorally violated or completely stripped away. The inhuman, obnoxious problem of Trading in Misery – Modern Slavery is literally taking place in the shadow of our personal pursuits of happiness. This business, for that is what it is destroys the personhood of victims. It denies them their individual sovereign rights, reducing them to chattel slavery; in the 21st Century no less. The problem needs our combined efforts, and it starts with an awareness of what’s going on and how we might join the fight against human trafficking. We hope reading our feature will be a step in the right direction.
